2. Tap Tempo Tools — No Audio Involved

The tap tempo tools — including the Tempo Finder and Tap Tempo tool — require no microphone access and capture no audio from your device. BPM is calculated purely from the timing of your keystrokes or clicks using JavaScript’s performance timing API.

No sound enters the browser, no audio stream is opened, and no microphone permission is requested. There is no audio data handling consideration for these tools.

3. Audio Beat Detection — Microphone and File Upload

The audio beat detection tool requires either microphone access or an uploaded audio file.

Microphone input:

Microphone access is requested through your browser’s standard permission prompt — never without your explicit approval
All audio processing occurs in real time inside your browser using the Web Audio API
Audio is not recorded, not stored, not uploaded, and not transmitted to any server
When you stop the tool or leave the page, all audio data is cleared from browser memory

File upload:

Audio files are read locally by the browser’s FileReader API — the file does not travel over the internet
The file is decoded and analysed within the Web Audio API entirely within your browser
The original file on your device is unaffected
All decoded audio data is cleared when you close the browser tab

Your audio and tempo session data are never connected to any cookie, analytics identifier, or advertising profile.
