This statement explains our current accessibility status, the known limitations of our tools for certain users, what we have implemented to support accessibility, and how to contact us if you encounter a barrier.
Our Commitment
We believe that anyone interested in BPM, tempo, music production, or rhythm should have access to tools and information that help them explore and apply those interests — regardless of disability, device, or technical setup.
Tempo-Finder.com aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. When barriers are identified — through our own review or through user feedback — we work to address them.
Current Accessibility Status
Tempo-Finder.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Known gaps are disclosed in the Limitations section below.
What we have implemented
Keyboard navigation. Core site navigation — menus, links, and page structure — is accessible via keyboard. Users who cannot use a mouse can navigate using Tab and activate links with Enter.
Text readability. Body text is set at a minimum of 16px with sufficient line spacing. Heading levels (H1, H2, H3) follow correct hierarchical order, allowing screen readers to navigate content structure logically.
Colour contrast. Text and background colour combinations meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 Level AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
Descriptive link text. Links describe their destination — not generic phrases such as “click here” or “read more.”
Alt text on images. Meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes.
Responsive design. The site adapts to all screen sizes without horizontal scrolling at standard zoom levels up to 200%.
No auto-playing media. No audio plays automatically without user action.
Page titles. Every page has a unique, descriptive title tag.
Skip navigation link. A “Skip to content” link is available at the top of every page.
Fully Accessible Tools
Before disclosing limitations, it is important to highlight that several tools on this site are fully accessible to users who cannot hear or who do not have a microphone:
Tap Tempo and Tempo Finder — these tools require no audio input, no microphone access, and no hearing. BPM is calculated from the timing of your keystrokes or clicks — a purely mathematical operation. The tap button is fully keyboard accessible (spacebar or Enter), and the BPM result is displayed as text. Screen reader users receive the same numerical result as sighted users.
BPM to Milliseconds Converter — a pure calculation tool accepting typed numeric input. Input fields have associated labels. Results are displayed as structured text. Fully keyboard accessible and screen reader compatible.
These tools represent the core functionality of the site and are accessible without any audio capability.
Known Limitations by Tool
Audio Beat Detection
The audio beat detection tool requires microphone access (for live input) or an uploaded audio file, and produces a result by analysing audio content.
Hearing dependency for verification. While the tool produces a numerical BPM result that is displayed as text — accessible to screen readers — meaningful verification of the result typically requires the ability to hear the track being analysed. A user who cannot hear the music cannot confirm whether the detected tempo is correct or whether a half-time/double-time interpretation is more appropriate.
Microphone permission prompt. The browser microphone permission prompt is a native browser UI element outside this site’s control. Its accessibility depends on the browser being used.
Real-time display. If the tool displays a continuously updating BPM reading during live microphone analysis, these rapid updates may not be announced by screen readers during active analysis. The final confirmed BPM result is the accessible output.
Online Metronome
Hearing dependency. The metronome produces an audio click track as its primary output. Users who are deaf or have severe hearing impairment cannot perceive the click and therefore cannot use the metronome for its primary purpose of tempo reference.
Visual beat indicator. The metronome includes a visual beat indicator — a flashing or pulsing visual element — that accompanies each click. This makes the metronome partially usable for users with hearing impairment who can perceive the visual reference.
Interface accessibility. The BPM input field, start/stop controls, and tempo adjustment buttons are fully keyboard accessible. Only the audio output itself is hearing-dependent.
Third-Party Advertising
This site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. The accessibility of individual ad creatives is outside our direct control as ads are provided by third-party advertisers.
